Your traditional and cosy hideaway on the doorstep of the Yorkshire Wolds.
We’re proud to have been finalists in the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards' Remarkable Self Catering category in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
'From the moment we arrived, we knew this place was going to be special.'
We look forward to welcoming you to one of our two homely cottages set in the quiet East Yorkshire village of Nordham, North Cave, or to our new cottage in Applethwaite, near Keswick. Whether you’re after a relaxing long weekend, a perfect base for your business commitments, or a longer stay exploring the wonderful Wolds, or the lakes and mountains in Cumbria, we have the perfect cottage for you. Ask about longer lets too, we try our best to be accommodating even if it’s longer than a week or two, with discounts for multiple weeks and for returning guests.
Croft Head at Applethwaite, (ready soon) is only a mile from Keswick with towering Skiddaw to the north, and stunning mountain views from the south facing rear. Walking the fells, afloat on Bassenthwaite or Derwent water, eating out in Keswick are but a few of the endless visitor opportunities in the Lake District.
Our guests love that our Nordham based cottages are well under an hour from York and the coast, and only 20 minutes from “King’s Town” upon Hull, UK City of Culture in 2017. The beautiful historic market town of Beverley is also only 20 minutes away, great for shopping, exploring the town trail, or a punt at the races. We’re moments from the newly created wildlife hotspot of North Cave Wetlands, and at the gateway to even more wild encounters within the Yorkshire Nature Triangle.
We think the best memories are made on holiday, so if your family hasn’t played pooh sticks in a while or your children are learning to ride a bike – let us be the place where it all comes together. William’s Den, the children’s adventure attraction opening in North Cave in Spring ’17, promises much fun, I want to be a child again! And it’s within walking from our Nordham based cottages.
When you come away from home, we know the small things are still important, which is why the kettle is ready to click on, and you’ll be greeted with our favourite treats on a ‘Yorkshire Tea Tray’, plus a burst of colour with flowers from our cut flower garden when in season. If you are here while our garden is full of ‘organic vegetable bounty’, we provide a veg basket, and even some fresh eggs if the chickens are behaving! Want to see our National Garden Scheme gardens during your stay, and donate to National nursing and caring charities? Just ask for an agreeable time. If all you want to do is step outside the door every morning and take in the really fresh air, go through the parkland for a walk or a run; the surroundings are picture perfect, and we don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Want to see wildlife in our streamside woodland, with owls and kingfishers for company? Just ask Louise. Our woodland treasure trail helps children to have a really wild time and it’s not just for children, the photo opportunities are magical.
After a great day out whether on the North Cave patch or further afield, return to your cottage to relax in the sunny walled courtyard garden for a BBQ or snuggle in the cosy cottage with a book or family board game if it's chilly outside.
At the end of your stay, take away a jar of homemade jam made from our own produce, a reminder of what we hope will be a memorable time, well spent.
