Cottages
Short breaks are available as well as weekly bookings and longer stays in our 4-5* Gold Cottages
In East Yorkshire:
Cottages in Hotham
Baker’s and Ruth’s, are 17th Century, with bags of character and very close to the pub. The Hideaway is an ‘80’s’ build, a stone-built garden retreat, with similar space to a Shepherd’s hut and can be taken with Baker’s Cottage to provide extra accommodation for two. Together they can sleep eight.
Cottages in Nordham
Our latest development, The Old Stables, is accessible, converted from old stone buildings with beams, this property is assessed 5* Gold by Visit England and offers accommodation for four people in two ensuite super-king or twin bedrooms. Horseshoe and Bay Tree are the old gardener’s cottages to Fawley House, always popular with our customers and have traditional cottage features. Apple Loft and our event space are in the 17th Century building next to Bay Tree Cottage.
Cottage in Cumbria:
Applethwaite is known locally as ‘the sunny side of Keswick’. Apple Barn is the converted barn to 17th Century Croft Head, in the centre of village.
All our properties have WiFi.
East Yorkshire
Guests state they love our East Yorkshire based cottages as they make a good base for discovering the area: well under an hour from York and the coast, and 20 minutes from “King’s Town” upon Hull, UK City of Culture in 2017. The beautiful and historic market town of Beverley is also 20 minutes away, great for shopping, exploring the town trail, or a punt at the races. Beverley is alive with good restaurants and has a market every Saturday.
Nordham and Hotham based cottages are a short walk from the wildlife hotspot The North Cave Wetlands, and at the gateway to even more ‘wild’ encounters within the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, including the remarkable Bempton cliffs.
We think the best memories are made on holiday, so if your family has not played pooh sticks in a while, or your children are learning to ride a bike, let us be the place where it all comes together. William’s Den, the children’s adventure play attraction, is so much fun, and is less than 5 minutes from Nordham and Hotham.
Hotham based cottages are only a short walk from Nordham, so enjoy the same travel times and nearness to local attractions. The Hotham Arms is a favourite ‘local’ and is a few yards from the door.
Cumbria
Our Cumbria based property, Apple Barn in Applethwaite, is only a mile from lively Keswick. The living area looks up towards towering Skiddaw and has stunning mountain views to the West towards Bassenthwaite. Walking the fells, or enjoying our closest lakes, Derwent water and Basenthwaite are but a few of the endless visitor opportunities in the Lake District, England’s adventure playground. There are many good restaurants to walk to in lively Keswick and a bustling market every Thursday and Saturday.
A Home Away From Home
When you come away from home, we know the small things are still important and you will arrive to a welcoming ‘home from home’. A jar of homemade jam and tea tray awaits your arrival. There is a well-stocked veg and egg stand in Nordham and the village shop is 5 minutes’ walk, (and within a half hours walk from Hotham). In Cumbria, Marias’s Street shop, is much loved and commented on.
In East Yorkshire, if you are a green fingered enthusiast, why not ask to see our National Garden Scheme gardens during your stay? The gardens raise money for National nursing and caring charities, so please just ask Louise for an agreeable time, and enjoy an hour of peace and tranquillity.
If you would like a chance to spot wildlife in our streamside woodland, with owls and kingfishers sometimes for company, just ask. Our woodland treasure trail gives children the chance to have a ‘wild’ time, and it’s not just for children, the photographic opportunities are magical.
Whether in East Yorkshire or in Cumbria, if all you want to do is step outside the door every morning and take in some clean fresh air through parkland or fields at the start of your day, the surroundings are picture perfect, and we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
After a great day out, return to your holiday home to relax in the sunny garden areas, all South facing, or snuggle inside with a book or family board game if it's chilly outside.
At the end of your stay, we hope you will return home, refreshed, full of fresh air and a memorable time, well spent.
