Apple Barn
Croft Head cottage is our 17th Century farmhouse in the heart of Applethwaite, a quiet village off the beaten track, very close to Keswick. Applethwaite boasts fabulous views of Derwent Water and the towering fells beyond Keswick towards Borrowdale. When looking for a property along the Millbeck/Applethaite road, we turned to each other and said ‘Wow’!
Between October 2015 and Lockdown, we worked on the site of the old farmhouse and buildings, taking the property back to bare bones, revealing several unexpected and interesting features. We converted the old barn into a contemporary property with a traditional twist for our family, and our customers, to enjoy:
Apple Barn lies next to Croft Head and sleeps 4 people. Two downstairs bedrooms look out to Apple Barn’s charming courtyard garden and both rooms have en-suite showering facilities. The hallway gives access to the stairs where there’s an open plan room with a kitchen at one end, table for 4 and comfortable seating for TV viewing and relaxing. There are wonderful views through the Juliette balcony glazed doorway of the fells leading towards Skiddaw and a west view through the two large Velux windows towards Bassenthwaite lake. Outside in the courtyard garden there’s seating for 4 people with a stunning view towards Cat Bells and Borrowdale. Although the private garden is enclosed, there’s an open walkway from the parking area; a hook on the wall near the window can be used for a dog lead.
Apple Barn is a compact and comfortable base for a walking or sightseeing holiday in the Lake District. ,Lakeland planning didn’t allow us to raise the roof, so our architect made maximum use of the space, and we dug down and then tanked! We enjoy using Apple Barn ourselves and we have many return customers who have given us top scoring reviews. Please be aware the sloping ceiling upstairs can catch you out on the eaves if you are super tall.
Car parking available for 1 car only. Requests please for an additional car space.
